Lists - Physical Items Topic

You can use the Lists - Physical Items topic to define all the child components of the parent item.

AssetWise regards the item list as a document, which means that a document must be defined in the document table. The document must also be defined as one of the document classes describing, for example, the Product Assembly Type structure.

The document must also be related to the physical item it underwrites before the components (child items) can be defined for a specific item. When the item list document is approved, the structure of the item will be frozen.

To change the item list after the document has been approved, you must register a change request against the document. This will enable you to define a new revision of the item list document, and hence a new structure for the physical item.

You need to define the item list because the item list document promulgates information about the make-up of the parent item, just as a drawing promulgates information about the form of the parent item. Both documents thus inform users about a certain aspect of the parent item, and needs to be under configuration change control.
